Rapid COVID-19 Testing
Please do not call with questions before you have read this testing information page thoroughly.
As a service to Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford County First Responders (Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS personnel) and Peoria area Public Works, Advanced Medical Transport, in conjunction with the Peoria City/County Health Department, is offering free rapid COVID-19 testing.
Rapid Antigen testing will be offered seven days per week and will be at no cost to the above mentioned frontline public safety personnel. Results will be provided in a 15-minute timeframe. If additional follow-up testing is needed, it will also be provided free of charge.
Data collected will follow HIPAA compliance and will be shared only with public health entities as required by IDPH regulation.
WHEN AND WHY SHOULD I BE TESTED?
Please note that testing too early can result in a negative result that is not accurate simply because of timing. If an individual develops symptoms, the rapid test is likely to be most accurate after Day 2 of symptoms. If a person develops symptoms, the best practice is for them to self-isolate, and schedule an appointment for testing the following day.
WHEN to test
-
Following contact with a known positive case, wait 4 days following the last known contact with a positive individual before testing.
-
Following the onset of symptoms, highly recommend testing on Day 2-3.
-
In a small subset of the population, additional testing may be recommended, which may include collection of a second specimen to be sent to the lab or to return to the testing site at a later date.
