"Heat Related Illness: A Hot Topic"

Through homeostasis, the human body attempts to keep an internal environment between 35.6°C to 37.8°C. The hypothalamus acts as the body's thermostat and through a negative feedback loop, maintains this balance. If the body's temperature drops below 35.6°C, the heat promoting center in the hypothalamus is activated, blood vessels near the surface of the skin constrict, and blood is kept away from the surface of the skin, allowing it to maintain its warmth.
